The NovelEmber/WriteMonth/Galactic Write Challenge!

Same Challenge, Same words, different mask!
The Annual writing challenge returns, this time under THREE different headings depending on where I'm talking about the Challenge! That's been the one downside of NaNoWriMo falling out of favor with the public; this challenge now has about 50 different names.   I didn't initially have a solid plan for the challenge this month, so I let my students vote on a story, and they overwhelmingly voted.

Ship of Dreams follows infamous accused-of-piracy sailor Aramis, who is thrown overboard during a pursuit in an eerie fog. When he awakes, he finds himself on a ship the likes of which has not been seen for over twenty years. But dark secrets lurk below the decks, and he'll have to uncover them fast if he wishes to escape with his soul.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it!   If you want to join the write challenge yourself-because it's almost never too late-All you need is a story and a goal! You can check out Nulcheck's tracker if you want to set up a fancy page like this for yourself, or you can use resources like 4TheWords and Trackbear to set and track your own goals. If all else, there's spreadsheets.   Happy Writing!

What is NovelEmber?
NovelEmber is WorldAnvil's version of NaNoWriMo: Set yourself a goal and write a story! While 50,000 words has been the community accepted standard for over... two decades now? You can set whatever goal you want that you can realistically achieve.
What is Write Challenge?
_____ Write Challenge is my local writing group's title for the Novel challenge. I'm naturally omitting my IRL information because I'm not doxxing myself.
What is the Galactic Write Challenge?
The Galactic Write Challenge is the version of the Novel Challenge I am putting up for my students; after they voted on the story they wanted to write ones of their own, and who am I to say no? I encouraged them to set goals they could realistically attain (Although I still have a couple madlads going for 50K) and they have a little rocket ship that will travel across the classroom bulletin boards depending on how much they write. For them it's more about the joy of writing and an activity that isn't graded. (and reinforcement of concepts outside a classroom setting)
Why are there so many individual challenges this year? What happened to NaNoWriMo?
Hoo, boy, that's a big topic. The short version is that after a predatory moderator from the NaNo forums was messily expunged, a lot of trust was lost in the organization. This was further exaberated when the new Chair began to alienate the supporters that were left; A rather blatantly Gen-AI supportive article that accused those who didn't support Gen-AI of being 'classist and abelist' did not help matters. Many of the former NaNoWriMo sub-groups have cut ties with the formal non-profit and gone their own ways, my local group included.
