Tia Mabi
Douli 'Tia' Mabi was one of many Tletci who were displaced from their homeland during the Night of Falling Crowns. Beset by beasts on all sides and the support of the Shimsharian Emirates failing, she took her clan and traveled north, to Mira and eventually Poartlind. The clan was gathered into an old truck that had been left by the wayside during the many immigrations that occured in those years. And it had been with abandoned with good reason; the suspension was all but wrecked, the headlights were dim and the motor theatened to give out at any time. Any sane traveler would have abandoned it for a pair of sturdy legs.
But Tia Mabi, at the time, was not fully a sane woman. To her the truck was a blessing, one which she accepted whole-heartedly. With many small children and elders to tend for, it could not be ignored. Even after the motor gave out, the family oxen were tied to the front and used to pull it through the fields of Mira. And when at last, the family reached the haven of Poartlind, the rest of the truck gave out with it. It would not move another inch.
But this did not deter Tia Mabi. Faced with a clan to feed and a truck that couldn't move, she came up with an idea.
Tacos for all
The truck was refurbrished, the motor removed and replaced with a stove, and bed covered and turned into a small serving platform. Tables and chairs, hastily built or reconstructed from whatever pallets and winders the family could find were set around the truck. A brilliant red, green and brown tarp, woven by Abuela Mali, was hung from the topmost part of the truck to a pole stuck into a spool that served as a table, providing shade.
Then they started to cook. Tia had brought with her from the homeland a large jar of spices, one she put to work making tacos for her fellow immigrants, and anyone else in need of food. Tio Rukk had carefully brought with the family seedlings, that were planted in the small field the family had purchased with their remaining funds to feed their oxen. These soon flourished into a glorious garden of vegetables and spice plants, that soon overgrew its plot. Within a couple of years, the Taco Truck had turned into not only a local staple, but the heart of the Tq'ali district of Poartlind.
The Ultima Taco
While most of Tia's offerings are standard fare, there is one item that stands out; the Ultima Taco. based on the
The Legend of Sabi'ik, the Ultima Taco is a reflection of the legendary dish Sabi'ik served to the Voracious Master to quell his hunger. Three times the size of a standard taco and overflowing with ingredients, the true test of this dish is to eat it without losing a single bit of ground beef.
I want an Ultima Taco now! \o/ Well written.
