St. Borel Hermit Society

It's a busy street, filled with markets and merchantiles.   The sun's bright overhead, yet shadows fill every corner underneath awnings and coverings.   You stop to admire a display of tea coffers arranged lovingly on a countertop.   A hooded figure catches your eye.   A brochure is withdrawn from a sleeve.
"Please, sir, would you consider supporting the St. Borel Hermit's Society?"

It is rare for an organization so focused on seclusion and solidarity to need to preach or prolyestize to anyone, but somehow the St. Borel Hermit's society has managed it. Strangely, it is the life of a hermit and the seemingly peaceful solitude that draws crowds to it in droves, thereby ruining the peaceful solitude that they sought. The St. Borel Hermit's society stands between their beloved hermits and the rest of the world, giving them a taste of the Hermit life while convincing them that, really, they are better off searching for their peaceful solitude elsewhere.

Culture

The St. Borel Hermit's society is a sub-group of an order of monks clositered in a monestary hidden in the Begoria Mountain Range. Originally Dedicated to prayer and the careful creation and transcription of new Bibles, the Monks rarely recieve outside visitors... Or so they would like. In actuality, the group is near constantly visited by literary afficianandos, pilgrims seeking refuge, merchants seeking to sell the carefully-made bibles, and at points rather clueless tourists who don't seem to understand the meaning of the word 'Hermit.'   It soon came to be that a smaller monestary was set up further down the mountain, for the monks who were not quite suited to the quiet, Hermit lifestyle, but did not want to leave the monastic order. They are the ones who deal with the general public on the behalf of the full order of Monks.

Public Agenda

Being a sub-group of the Order of St. Borel, the St. Borel society is focused on public information. Precisely, informing the public that the Order of St. Borel are hermits and do not appreciate having a constant stream of visitors. They act as a wall between the outside world and the Order itself, handling public questions and merchant agreements. They also sell tea that is grown on the mountaintop, to help offset the cost of keeping the Monestary fed.   They are more than happy to supply the populace with explanatory brouchures, detailing just what a Hermit is and why it is important for them to be left alone in order for them to dedicate themeslves to prayer and fasting.

This is a really fun and clever idea - I love the idea of the monks having essentially a PR department dedicated to telling people to go away. I'd love to see a sample of the materials they hand out!

Haha! I love the idea of this organization just being like "Hey, I'm just here to tell you to not visit us!" Great article.

Thank you! I love putting twists on articles, and what better twist than an organization telling you to go away? *peeks at footer* Starred articles? I wanna learn how to do that!
